Born in Incheon, South Korea, and raised in Seoul, JT Kim is a Toronto based bass player, upright bass player and producer, writer, arranger and educator.
He started singing in classical choirs at the age of 6 under the direction of Hak Won Yoon at Young Nak Church, Seoul, Korea.
He moved to Toronto with his family in 2003 at the age of 16 and he graduated from Humber College with a Bachelor of Music in 2012, as a vocal major.
While studying at Humber, JT discovered his love for the bass guitar. Since then, playing the bass has become his passion.
His versatile style allowed him to perform with many different artists in Toronto, widely ranging from playing reggae gospel bass with Juno-award winning gospel choir Toronto Mass Choir, to rocking out on famous Rockn’ Roll classics with Rookie, the band fronted by Aaron Mackenzie, former cast member of the Toronto and Las Vegas casts of Jersey Boys.
He also recording intensely with many artists all over the world, including Kpop producer STi and 1sagain, CEO of Neuron Music and artists like Jubora, Paul Kim to name a few.
JT has been blessed to share stage with or open for many prominent artists in his career, including Grammy Award winner Tasha Cobbs, Larnell Lewis, Canada's own jazz greats Robi Botos, and also played at the prestigious venues like Air Canada Centre, TD Toronto Jazz Festival main stage, GMWA, Folk Alliance International, SXSW and Austin City Limits stage to name a few.
He shared a stage as a band director and bass player for renowned K-Pop artist like Byun Jin-sub to play at Toronto Metro Convention Centre and Hard Rock Casino, Vancouver.
He currently serves as a band director for Praise Cathedral Worship Centre has been serving as a band director for many other Christian conferences in Toronto.
He has been invited as a clinician for ODPC Band Camp, GMM Church Worship School and Worship Canada to teach group classes, private lessons, variety of workshops and ensemble classes.
He currently actively performs with Toronto Mass Choir on a tour "Oh Happy Day" with Grammy Winning Tenor Ben Heppner, and he also continues to write, arrange and perform with variety of artists in Toronto and around the world.
