JT Kim is a talented and versatile musician who has made a significant impact in the Canadian music scene. Born in Incheon, South Korea, JT developed a love for music at a young age and began singing in a classical choral choir. After moving to Canada in 2003, he discovered a passion for contemporary music and pursued his studies in music.
JT attended Humber College, where he initially enrolled as a vocal major. However, during his studies, he fell in love with the bass guitar and made it his primary instrument. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree, and since then, he has performed at some of the most prestigious venues and stages across Canada.
JT's impressive resume includes performances at the TD Jazz Festival main stages, Jazz FM 91.1 broadcasts, Scotiabank Arena, Roy Thompson Hall, Toronto Centre For The Arts, The Ross Theatre, Flato Markham Theatre, and many more. He has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Grammy-winning tenor Ben Heppner, Larnell Lewis, Juno Award-winning Toronto Mass Choir, Robi Botos, and Canadian legend Jackie Richardson.
JT has also recorded bass for numerous artists around the world, including K-pop chart-topping Paul Kim, Jubora, and Juno Award-winning Toronto Mass Choir, to name a few.
In addition to his work as a performer, JT is also a dedicated educator. He has taught at various clinics and workshops, including the Power Up Gospel Workshop, hosted by the Toronto Mass Choir, and the ODPC Band Academy, where he has had the opportunity to work with some of the world's most renowned musicians, such as the guitar player for the famous BTS.
JT's hard work and dedication to his craft have not gone unnoticed, and in 2021, he received his first Juno Award nomination for his work on the album "Conpambiche" by Junior Santos. JT was nominated in the Jazz Album Of The Year: Solo category for his arranging and bass playing contributions to the album.
